Inclusive Vet Med
The purpose of the Inclusive Vet Med Project, part of the Center for Veterinary Social Work at the University of Tennessee, is to improve veterinary student mental health and wellbeing and to increase equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging in U.S. colleges of veterinary medicine. Our objective is to increase understanding of the wants, needs, and preferences of students of veterinary medicine through in person focus groups with current vet med students, recent graduates, those who are responsible for mental health programming in CVMs, and interviews with veterinarians who have voluntarily left the profession.
Our Story
Inclusive Vet Med was started in 2021 by Dr. Pamela Linden, joined by Lisa Wiborg, Dr. Tom Favale, and Shannon Fitzgerald. Dr. Linden saw the need for veterinary students’ perspective on their wellbeing and issues related to belongingness and inclusion during their time in veterinary school. Inclusive Vet Med is also dedicated to discovering the experiences of recent graduates and veterinarians who have left the profession.
